Revenge was sweet for Morecambe as they boosted their own chances of going up while leaving struggling Tamworth to fret about the future.
The last time Morecambe visited The Lamb, on the final day of last season, they saw their play-off dreams evaporate as they were held to a goalless draw.
But they ensured there would be no repeat as they stormed to a comprehensive victory to move into the top five and dump Tamworth back in the relegation mire.
Morecambe came out in determined mood and took the lead inside two minutes.
Michael Twiss rode Matt Redmile's lunging challenge and crossed for Wayne Curtis, who had time to turn and fire home through keeper Sean Bowles' legs from six yards.
Gary Thompson went close to doubling the lead soon after when his goalbound shot was deflected just past the far post.
However, he made no mistake in the 12th minute when he beat Bowles with a stunning right-foot drive from 25 yards to put Morecambe in total control.
Danny Carlton should have made it 3-0 just after half-time but lifted his shot over the bar from six yards.
However, he produced a far more accomplished finish in the 77th minute to kill the game off, chesting the ball down before dispatching it into the bottom corner.
Tamworth were well off the pace all afternoon and rarely looked like scoring with visiting keeper Steven Drench only having to make one routine save from a Tommy Johnson free-kick.
