Morecambe slipped out of the play-off places after being held to a goalless draw at Tamworth.
The Shrimps needed all three points on the final day to be sure of their place in the top five but were unfortunate to meet a Tamworth side that were unbeaten in their last ten days.
And in goalkeeper Ryan Price they faced a man on a mission. Price was playing his last game for Tamworth after being told by manager Mark Cooper he was surplus to requirement.
However, he produced his best his best performance for the Lambs and almost single-handedly broke Morecambe's heart.
He produced three superb second-half saves to deny Michael Twiss, Danny Carlton, and Garry Hunter.
The hosts enjoyed the better of the opening 30 minutes and it looked like they were the team with everything to play for.
However, the Shrimps then took control and should have taken the lead just before half-time when Wayne Curtis was on the end of a sweeping move, but Price denied him at point-blank range.
The visitors piled on the pressure in the second half but could find no way past the Lambs' defensive giants Matt Redmile and Aaron Brown.
When they did Price proved to be unbeatable.
With 15 minutes remaining Twiss, who had scored 23 goals already this season, broke through and even non-gamblers would have put their mortgage on him scoring. But Price produced a stunning one-handed save and almost matched it minutes later when substitute Carlton stole in behind the Tamworth defence.
Morecambe peppered the Lambs' goal in the closing stages but couldn't find a breakthrough and their season ended in disappointment.
