Shrimps get Shrews away day blues
Morecambe tasted defeat on their League Two travels for the first time this season after being sunk 2-0 by Shrewsbury goals at the end of each half at the Greenhous Meadow.
The high-flying Shrews, who remain unbeaten at home this term, were made to work hard for their latest victory which was secured by goals from Nicky Wroe and Mark Wright
Recalled midfielder Wroe made the breakthrough in a tight first half of few chances, hammering home a penalty in the 38th minute after Nick Fenton handled a Terry Gornell cross from the right.
Either side of the goal, Morecambe created the two best opportunities of the half. Phil Jevons hooked an early close range volley narrowly wide before Andrew Fleming planted a header just off target after a fine run and cross from Kevin Ellison.
The visitors chased the game with renewed belief after the break. Izak Reid saw a 20 yard drive well kept out by goalkeeper Chris Neal before Chris McCready's header five minutes from time was cleared off the line by Matt Richards.
It proved highly significant when in the 87th minute Marvin Morgan delivered an inviting cross from the right which was headed home at the far post by winger Wright as Shrewsbury stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.
