Fenton denies Pilgrims
Morecambe skipper Nick Fenton volleyed a stoppage time leveller to help his side to a 1-1 draw against basement side Plymouth.
The Pilgrims came within a minute of ending high-flying Morecambe's unbeaten away record thanks to skipper Simon Walton's cracking 31st-minute volley.
Walton looked to have scored a minute before but his effort, from a Luke Young corner, was cleared off the line by Morecambe's Gary McDonald after taking a late deflection off team-mate Jared Sims.
The ball was cleared outside of the penalty area, where Walton met the dropping ball with a thundering 25-yard left-footed volley that flew past visiting goalkeeper Barry Roche and down the inside of the net.
It was no more than the home side deserved against the lacklustre visiting side, whose best efforts came through livewire striker Kevin Ellison.
The experienced Ellison forced two superb stops from Romain Larrieu, Plymouth's assistant player-manager.
The first came in the 27th minute when the Frenchman went full stretch to keep out Ellison's shot after a superb through ball by McDonald then midway through the second half, a 30-yard free-kick from the striker, was well palmed away by Larrieu.
Ellison, again, came even closer to rescuing a draw when his 80th-minute volley beat Larrieu but flew off the outside of the post.
But in five minutes of stoppage time, Morecambe rescued a draw when Fenton roofed in a volley after Plymouth failed to clear their lines.
