Vics produced another fightback, this time against Morecambe, and stretched their unbeaten home record to 21 games.

Morecambe took a two-goal lead, but spirited Northwich rallied as they had done in similar circumstances against Carlise and even came within a few inches of snatching a dramatic victory.

Morecambe took the lead after 11 minutes when Jim Bentley fed David Perkins on the wing and his low cross was swept home by Michael Twiss.

Danny Carlton was the beneficiary in the 35th minute of the same move. This time Twiss was the supplier after charging past Chris Royle and Carlton diverted another low centre into the net from close range.

Northwich merited some reward and on the stroke of half time Bentley handled a Steve Garvey free-kick. Bentley escaped a red card but Morecambe were duly punished when Paul Brayson sent Adam Sollitt the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Northwich made greater inroads in the second half, and the game turned on two incidents in the 84th minute.

Morecambe's Nick Rogan was denied by a superb Andrew Ralph save and Northwich drove forward. Brayson found substitute Christopher Thompson and he took everyone by surprise with a superb 20-yard shot that was still rising as it hit the roof of the net.

Minutes later Thompson 's shot curled around Sullit only to bounce off a post.
