Morecambe maintained their late play-off push with another convincing home win.
The Shrimps brushed aside the challenge of limited Altrincham side with a goal in either half giving them their second win of the weekend and keeping them in fifth place in the Conference table.
After a period of sustained pressure went unrewarded, it was skipper Jim Bentley who gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half-time with his fourth goal of the season.
Christian Adams gave away a somewhat needless corner and Michael Twiss floated the ball to the far post, where Bentley rose superbly to direct a bullet header past Stuart Coburn.
The second goal came on 63 minutes as Danny Carlton clinched his seventh goal in the last six games. The goal once again came from a Twiss corner from the right, which was swung into the near post and Carlton got the vital touch to stab the ball past Coburn.
Seven minutes later it was almost 3-0. Garry Hunter, who had another excellent game in the heart of the midfield alongside the busy Fraser McLachlan, latched on to the loose ball in the area to send a header goalwards, but was denied by a superb goal-line clearance from Gary Scott.
The Shrimps dominated the first half but found it tough to break free of a stubborn Altrincham side who defended well.
Hunter was the first to threaten when he volleyed over from close range and Garry Thompson followed suit a minute later with a well-struck volley from Carlton's corner which whistled over the bar.
The chances continued in the second half with Coburn producing a wonderful save to tip away Wayne Curtis' near-post flick from another corner and chances for Thompson and Carlton went begging.
Altrincham showed very little, with Steve Aspinall's long-range snapshot whistling just over the bar and the Shrimps were always in control.
