A late goal from Farnborough skipper Steve Watson earned his side a share of the spoils in this highly entertaining encounter at Morecambe's Christie Park.

The competitive midfielder popped up in the 88th minute to sidefoot a cross from substitute Chris Piper past Craig Mawson.

After Adriano Rigoglioso had given the Shrimps the lead on 70 minutes with a sweetly struck shot from 20 yards out, Morecambe looked set to clinch their seventh home victory of the season.

From there Morecambe dominated, but came up against an inspired performance from keeper Tony Pennock who made a string of fine saves.

His best blocks came from Lee Colkin and Wayne Curtis while also doing well to tip a dipping Rigoglioso cross on to the crossbar.

But while Morecambe created the better chances of the second half the visitors made the clearer openings in the opening stages of the game, but found striker Lenny Piper having a day he will want to forget.

Piper wasted three glorious opportunities to open the scoring, but twice forced Morecambe keeper Mawson into neat blocks when through on goal.

And Mawson was in the thick of the action again after 38 minutes with another fine block from Danny Carroll's back-post header.

For Morecambe their top scorer Curtis was desperate to take his account into double figures for the season, but he also missed a great opportunity when he blazed a left-foot shot wide with only Pennock to beat.

In the end both managers agreed a draw was a fair result although if their frontmen had had better days it could have been a different story
