Margate fought back to claim a point from the first game of their one season ground-sharing arrangement at Dover.

The real winner was the weather, with the temperature on the pitch well over 100 degrees. Gate came back to equalise through Sam Sodje in the 68th minute, who cancelled out Andy Gouck's 25th minute screamer for Morecambe.

Gate's Leon Braithwaite came close on 16 minutes, firing into the sidenetting, but Morecambe took the lead with a goal of stunning quality after 25 minutes.

Sodje's headed clearance from a right-wing cross fell only as far as Gouck, who smashed a superb curling shot from 22 yards out which gave keeper Phil Smith no chance and nestled in the corner of the net.

Morecambe looked the more likely side to score for the remainder of the half as Gary Thompson twice went close. Margate looked a little livelier after the break and Terry McFlynn shot straight at keeper Craig Mawson.

The pace again slackened off after this but on 68 minutes Margate salvaged a point with their equaliser.

Morecambe carelessly conceded a corner with a back pass and Paul Lamb's accurate inswinging corner was hooked over the line by Sodje after hesitation by the visiting defence.

Morecambe's sub Ryan-Zico Black wasted a good chance ten minutes from time and Adriano Rigoglioso fired well over after intricate work by Stewart Drummond.

Margate's Jay Saunders was dismissed on 89 minutes after his second yellow card and after that both sides seemed content with a point
