The Shrimps have struggled for much of the campaign but eased their relegation fears with victory at Rotherham last weekend.
They now host third-bottom Burton, with McIlroy acutely aware of the magnitude of the match.
He said: "This is a massive game for both clubs and it is important that the crowd get right behind us.
"We all know our home form has been poor this season and it is something that has certainly baffled me.
"But the win at Rotherham on Saturday was a huge lift for the players and the fans and if we can carry that spirit and determination into this weekend's game we can look to move a huge step closer to safety."
